Position Details:
- Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm Set schedule
- Pay: $15-$17/hour based on experience. (with quick advancement for demonstrated skills)
- Start Date: Immediately (training available)
What Makes This Position Unique
This isn't a typical single-focus bakery job. You'll be using your full range of baking skills across our operation:
Mondays: Work alongside our Lead Bread Baker on bread production - our biggest bread day of the week. You'll be mixing, shaping, proofing, and baking artisan breads for retail and wholesale accounts.
Tuesday-Friday: Run our pastry production. You'll be responsible for baking cookies, cakes, pies, quiches, scones, and muffins, plus cake decorating, making prep components (frangipane, frostings, fillings), packaging products, and organizing orders for multiple accounts.
This role is perfect for a well-rounded baker who gets bored doing just one thing and wants to use all their skills every week.
What You'll Be Doing
Monday - Bread Production (8 hours):
- Work with our experienced Lead Bread Baker
- Scaling and mixing dough batches
- Portioning and shaping various bread styles
- Monitoring proofing and baking breads to quality standards
- Assisting with weekly bread production planning
Tuesday-Friday - Pastry Production (32 hours):
- Baking off pastries (scones, muffins, croissants) to daily production schedules
- Decorating cakes (6" and 8" rounds, sheet cakes) with professional buttercream work
- Making quiches from start to finish
- Baking cookies, bars, and brownies to consistent standards
- Preparing components: frangipane, frostings, fillings, sauces
- Packaging finished products for wholesale and retail
- Organizing and preparing orders for multiple wholesale accounts
- Assisting with customer service during retail hours
- Maintaining clean, organized workspace and food safety standards
- Working collaboratively with the rest of The Lakehouse Bakery team
What We're Looking For
This is NOT an entry-level position. We need someone who's already proven they can handle both sides of a bakery operation.
Required:
- 2 years of professional baking experience that includes BOTH bread and pastry work (commercial bakery, not home baking)
- Cake decorating skills - buttercream application, clean edges, consistent piping
- Bread production experience - comfortable with mixing, shaping, and baking techniques
- Ability to work independently and switch between production areas seamlessly
- Comfortable with high-volume production (dozens of items daily across multiple product lines)
- Reliable transportation to Chelsea location
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Holiday flexibility is essential - November/December are our busiest months
Bonus Points:
- ServSafe Food Handler certification
- Culinary education or formal baking training
- Wholesale or production bakery background
- Experience managing multiple production schedules simultaneously
- Jack-of-all-trades mentality in the kitchen
