What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse - Special Education 1:1 - Riverside Brookfield High School position at The LaGrange Area Department of Special Education?
The nurse would meet at Grand Prairie Transit (GPT) Bus Company location, and provide monitoring and support for a student with a history of seizures. There is also a bus aide assigned to the student to support needs and assist if the student has a seizure. The hours are 7-9:15 and 2pm- 3:15. We would be looking for coverage for ESY Summer school - June 17- July 24th and then for the 2025-206 school year as well.
Summary: To provide direct nursing services to students in a school setting. All duties are performed in accordance with district/cooperative/state board of education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice. Will also assist the classroom teacher/therapists in the implementation of the instructional program for students within the educational environment.
Reports To: Classroom Teacher and School Nurse Consultant
Qualifications: Associates Degree in Nursing or Bachelor Degree in Nursing
Experience with pediatric population
Current registered nurse licensure in Illinois
Current first-aid and CPR program completion
Meets Illinois State Board of Education requirements for Educator Licensure with
Stipulations (paraprofessional)
A valid Illinois driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
Physical
Requirements: The job requires physical exertion (e.g. lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs,
transferring students, driving; assisting students with activities of daily living.)
Professional
Evaluation: Standard practice is to conduct evaluations annually. Evaluations are conducted by the
classroom teacher or program coordinator with input from school nurse consultant
Contract: Length of contract, salary and benefits are established by the LADSE Directing Board
Specific
Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
Assist the classroom team in developing, organizing, preparing, and implementing instructional materials.
Promote a classroom culture that conveys dignity and respect and views all students as competent learners.
Assist in the development and update of individual student’s health plans and provide classroom staff with necessary instruction.
Domain 2: Classroom Environment
Assist classroom staff in maintaining a clean, safe and organized environment for students that promotes learning and independence.
Provide assistance in implementing behavior management plans in all educational environments, under the direction of the classroom team.
Monitor the use and care of equipment and materials within the educational environment to prevent injuries and damage.
Accompany child on bus when appropriate.
Domain 3: Delivery of Instruction
Provide physical care as needed, including toileting, diapering, feeding, grooming and transfer
Provide direct nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures and state and local mandates.
Administer medication with appropriate documentation.
Communicate students’ daily health and educational experiences to team members, including parents.
Implement daily lessons that align with curriculum and students’ individual goals and objectives.
Model positive/communication-based behavioral approaches, as directed by the educational team.
Assist in data collection by observing and recording information on student progress and sharing information with the team.
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities
Complete accident/incident reports for students/staff.
Maintain confidentiality regarding all classroom and student health issues.
Make appropriate referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
Maintain nursing license through continuing education opportunities.
Serve as professional role model for other colleagues in the educational environment.
Maintain accurate medical records/logs of nursing procedures performed at school, i.e. gastrostomy tube feedings, suctioning.
Perform other health or school related work as required.

Rates: $26.25 - $29.57 based on years of experience and current pay. Open to discussion based on current pay.
