Position Summary
The Riverfront Restaurant and Gun Room at The Lafayette Hotel offer a dining experience rooted in the Ohio River Valley — locally driven and genuinely hospitable. Our servers are the connective tissue between kitchen and guest, and we take that role seriously. We're looking for people who know food and drink, read the table well, and bring energy and confidence to every shift.
Core Responsibilities
- Greet and seat guests; present menus and guide the dining experience
- Describe menu items, specials, and beverage offerings accurately and compellingly
- Take food and beverage orders with precision and communicate clearly to the kitchen
- Deliver courses in correct order with proper plate presentation
- Anticipate guest needs; refill beverages, clear courses, and check satisfaction proactively
- Upsell appetizers, desserts, and wine pairings appropriately
- Handle allergy and dietary restriction inquiries accurately and with urgency
- Ability to manage multiple tickets, converse with guests, and process payments simultaneously under pressure
- Maintain knowledge of the full menu, rotating specials, and wine/cocktail list
- Set, reset, and maintain tables to hotel standards throughout service
- Communicate kitchen delays or issues to guests professionally
- Bartender: Solid understanding of classic cocktail recipes, ingredients, proportions, and proper pouring techniques
- Support side work, opening, and closing duties as assigned
REQUIREMENT
QUALIFICATION
1 year of full-service restaurant or hotel dining experience > Fine dining or upscale casual experience preferred
Passion for food and beverage > Wine fundamentals or coursework a plus
Ability to obtain food handling and alcohol service certification > Certification in place or willingness to complete before deadline
Point-of-sale system use > Experience with Restaurant Manager, Toast, Micros, or similar POS; ability to learn
Manage multiple tables simultaneously > Demonstrated organization with polished verbal communication and guest presence
Consistent attendance and ability to focus throughout a shift, up to eight hours
Demonstrated work history; punctual with reliable means of transportation, personal or public
Physical Requirements
Standing and walking throughout full service shifts; carrying trays and plates; lifting up to 30 lbs.
Pay: $6.00 - $6.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
