What are the responsibilities and job description for the Line Cook position at The Lafayette Hotel?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lafayette's kitchen team supports restaurant dining, public and private events — a range that requires versatility, stamina, and skill. We're building a kitchen culture around quality, consistency, and respect, and we need line cooks who take the craft seriously. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute all menu items and specials from assigned station with speed and accuracy
- Follow recipes, plating guides, and portion standards consistently
- Complete mise en place prior to each service period
- Maintain station cleanliness and organization throughout shift
- Communicate effectively with the line during service — calls, timings, fire and pickup
- Maintain inventory; rotate and label all product in accordance with FIFO and food safety standards
- Conduct and document temperature and holding time checks as required
- Support other stations and assist with prep as directed
- Assist with banquet and event production as needed
- Receive and inspect deliveries; notify the chef of any quality concerns
- Maintain equipment including proper cleaning and preventive maintenance reporting
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and Ohio Department of Health regulations
REQUIREMENT > QUALIFICATION
2 years of professional kitchen experience > Hotel, restaurant, or catering kitchen experience
Proficiency on grill, sauté, or garde manger station > Demonstrated range across multiple stations
Obtain food handling certification > Certification in place or willingness to complete before deadline
Ability to work at a high pace in a hot, confined kitchen environment > Proven endurance during peak service periods
Evening, weekend, and holiday availability > Flexible schedule or consistent availability
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Standing on hard floors for full shifts; working in high-heat environments; lifting up to 50 lbs.
