Overview
The Lab Fabrication is growing our design team and seeking the best scenic and experiential designers and drafters out there. Our design engineers take client requests from rough concepts to build-ready masterpieces. In this role, you will generate 3D models, client approval sets, 2D fabrication and installation packages, and CNC CAM programs. This role integrates expertise in model development, fabrication processes, tooling, and document generation.
We are hiring for various roles in this department, including a senior level designer.
Responsibilities
- Transform client concepts into fully workable 3D models, 2D drawings, CAM programs, and project technical documentation.
- Produce client approval sets, including all necessary annotations, dimensions, and notes.
- Deliver technical drawing packages for in-house fabrication, vendors and subcontractors, and on-site installation teams that allow them to build it right the first time.
- Take direction from and communicate clearly and regularly with the shop foreman, production manager, and fabrication team.
- Organize drawing and model files in a server database.
- Collaborate with shop management to optimize designs, inspect prototypes and samples, and update drawings with as-built conditions.
- Collaborate with managers and research materials, hardware, and production techniques to achieve optimal project performance and continuous improvement across all work processes.
- Adhere to departmental and company standards, and make suggestions for improvements where needed.
- Communicate professionally and positively, always focused on helping to build the best team in the industry.
- Other related duties as assigned by managers.
Skills
- Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5 years of previous experience in technical design and 3D modeling in a professional setting.
- 5 years of prior experience using 3D technical design tools. Rhino is required.
- Ability to create, read, and decipher technical drawings and plans.
- Ability to delegate and manage a small team to achieve a drawing package on time and on budget.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work closely with a team and elevate project challenges to management in a timely manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including flexibility and the ability to adapt to constant change and a strong sense of urgency.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on the shop floor daily in an active fabrication environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the shop for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, climb ladders, and work around fabrication equipment as needed.
- Ability to visually inspect fabricated parts, assemblies, and installations for accuracy.
- Ability to work safely around woodworking, metalworking, and CNC equipment.
- Ability to sit or stand and work at a computer for long periods.
Pay: $80, $115,000.00 per year
