Mechanical Engineer - Ultra-Low Temperature Systems
Location: Marietta, Ohio
Pay: $47.69/hour
Duration: 12-month contract
Relocation: Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate
KYO Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support Thermo Fisher Scientific's Laboratory Equipment Division in Marietta, Ohio.
This role will support the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems used in ultra-low temperature freezers and laboratory cold-storage equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on mechanical design experience and a strong background in product development, testing, CAD, and root-cause analysis.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and components for cold-storage and ultra-low temperature products
- Develop system, subsystem, and component performance specifications
- Create and execute engineering test plans
- Perform structural analysis and simulation using CAD/CAE tools
- Analyze test data and use results to improve product performance
- Support Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly initiatives
- Collaborate with refrigeration, electrical, controls, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and product teams
- Support verification and validation activities
- Maintain requirements traceability and engineering documentation
- Participate in continuous improvement and Lean/PPI initiatives
- Support regulatory and product compliance requirements, including UL, IEC, FDA, CE, CSA, and Energy Star
- Travel up to 10% as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline
- 5 years of hands-on mechanical systems development experience
- Experience with mechanical product design, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis
- Experience using CAD tools; SolidWorks preferred
- Experience with structural modeling, simulation, or FEA
- Experience analyzing empirical test data
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Cold-storage, HVAC/R, refrigeration, or ultra-low temperature products
- Sheet metal, engineered plastics, and foam systems
- Data acquisition and automated testing
- Lean, PPI, or continuous improvement methodologies
Military engineering and technical experience is encouraged to apply when equivalent to the listed requirements.
