Position Summary
The Pool Deck Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, safety, and organization of the pool deck during the summer season. This member-facing leadership role supervises a team of approximately 20 lifeguards and ensures the pool facility is clean, organized, safe, and welcoming for members and guests.
The Pool Deck Manager coordinates lifeguard rotations, enforces pool rules, manages the towel program, and ensures the pool deck is properly set up and maintained throughout the day. This role requires strong leadership, quick decision-making, and the ability to remain calm and organized during busy summer pool operations.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with both children and families in a fast-paced recreational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Pool Deck Operations
- Oversee the daily setup, organization, and cleanliness of the pool deck.
- Ensure pool furniture is properly arranged and maintained throughout the day.
- Manage the opening and closing procedures of the pool deck.
- Reset and secure deck furniture at the end of each day as required.
- Monitor the overall appearance and safety of the pool facility.
Lifeguard Leadership
- Supervise and provide daily leadership to approximately 20 lifeguards.
- Coordinate and manage lifeguard rotation schedules to ensure proper coverage.
- Monitor lifeguard attentiveness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide direction to deck staff and ensure all team members remain engaged and on task.
Pool Safety & Rule Enforcement
- Enforce all club pool rules and safety policies.
- Support lifeguards in maintaining a safe swimming environment.
- Address safety concerns quickly and professionally.
- Respond to situations requiring immediate decision-making or leadership.
Towel Program Management
- Oversee the collection, washing, drying, and folding of pool towels.
- Ensure towel station remains well stocked throughout the day.
Member Experience
- Serve as a visible and approachable leader on the pool deck.
- Interact positively with members and their families.
- Provide assistance with towels and general pool amenities.
- Foster a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
Event Support
Assist with club pool programming including:
- Swim team practices and swim meets
- Club-sponsored pool events
- Private pool parties
Support includes assisting with deck organization, safety oversight, and coordination with event staff.
Hours of Operation
Staff will begin to arrive at 7:30 to accommodate Early Swim Team Practice and close after the last member leaves the Pool Deck for the evening.
Regular operating hours align closely with pool café hours throughout the season, with scheduling based on operational needs.
The Pool Deck Manager may be scheduled for opening or closing shifts depending on staffing and programming.
Holiday Operations
The pool hosts major events during summer holidays including:
- Memorial Day
- Fourth of July
- Labor Day
These days are required workdays for the Pool Deck Manager and represent some of the busiest and most important days of the season.
Qualifications
- Previous lifeguard experience required
- Lifeguard Certification required (certification may be obtained through the club if necessary)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to supervise and motivate a team of young seasonal employees
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment during summer conditions
- Ability to remain calm and decisive in fast-paced or high-pressure situations
- Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills when working with families and children

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
