What are the responsibilities and job description for the STEM Instructor — The Kaizen Academy position at The Kaizen Academy?
About Us
The Kaizen Academy is a modern STEM education company that runs camps, competitions, and programs for K-12 students. We're not worksheets and lectures - we're AI tools, 3D printers, Arduino boards, content creation, and real projects kids actually want to show off. Our students leave camp with apps, robots, videos, and websites they built themselves.
We're hiring instructors for Summer 2026 across multiple age tracks (Grades 1–12) at our San Diego and Tri-Valley (Dublin/Pleasanton) locations.
The Role
You'll lead a group of students through project-based, hands-on STEM experiences. No boring PowerPoints. No reading from a textbook. You're building things with kids, getting excited when their code compiles or their robot moves, and making sure every student walks out of camp fired up about what they created.
Depending on the track, that could mean guiding younger students through creative building challenges, intro coding, and hands-on maker projects or leading older students through Arduino circuits, 3D printing, AI tools, app development, and content creation.
What We're Looking For
- You're technical, creative, and genuinely excited about building things; whether that's code, circuits, content, or contraptions
- You're great with kids and know how to make learning feel like play, not school
- You can manage a classroom without killing the energy in it
- You're comfortable learning new tools fast (we integrate AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude into the student experience)
- You bring patience, warmth, and the kind of enthusiasm that's contagious
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or holding a degree in engineering, computer science, education, design, or a related field
- Experience working with kids in any capacity (camps, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, volunteering)
- For our older student tracks (Grades 5–12): hands-on experience with robotics, 3D printing, programming, electronics, or similar technical skills is a strong plus
- For our younger student tracks (Grades 1–4): a nurturing, creative, high-energy teaching style matters more than deep technical expertise
- Bonus: experience with App Development, Arduino, Replit, Canva, video editing, or maker tools
What You Get
- Paid position with a team that actually cares about what we're building
- A chance to shape how the next generation thinks about tech and creativity
- A fast-moving startup environment where your ideas matter and you're not just following a script
This role is perfect for college students, recent grads, early-career educators, or anyone who's technical and creative and wants to spend the summer making an impact instead of sitting behind a desk.
