Job Purpose

The Groceries on the Go CDL Program Driver is responsible for safely transporting food, program materials, and one program participant as part of The Just One Project's Groceries on the Go Program. This position ensures timely, accurate deliveries; maintains compliance with DOT and Nevada safety regulations; provides exceptional customer service; and upholds food safety and handling standards while representing the organization in the community.

Responsibilities

Driving & Transportation

  • Operate a commercial vehicle to transport food, supplies, and one program participant to designated locations according to established routes and schedules.
  • Conduct DOT-compliant pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting findings and reporting maintenance needs promptly.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload food products following approved food-handling, temperature-control, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly vehicle interior and exterior, including required sanitation procedures for food transportation.
  • Follow all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and internal safety policies to ensure safe operation at all times.
  • Use GPS or routing systems to navigate routes efficiently and adjust for delays, road hazards, or program needs.

Administrative & Client Service

  • Provide courteous, professional service to clients, volunteers, site partners, and community members.
  • Support data collection by completing mileage logs, delivery documentation, and route reports accurately and on time.
  • Assist program staff during deliveries, community events, and special distributions as needed.
  • Uphold organizational values, ensuring confidentiality, professionalism, and a client-centered approach in all interactions.
  • Any other job duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of nonprofit or community-based program experience.
  • 2 years of driving experience operating buses or other large commercial vehicles.
  • Must have Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)with a clean driving record that meets organizational and insurance requirements.
  • 1 year of experience performing administrative tasks and providing professional client or customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • 2 Experience performing required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in compliance with DOT and Nevada safety standards.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to identify and troubleshoot minor vehicle issues.
  • Proficiency in using GPS, routing systems, and mobile navigation tools to ensure timely and efficient transportation of food and passengers.

WORK SCHEDULE AND EXPECTATIONS

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position, scheduled for approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional evenings or weekends may be required to support operational needs, community events, emergency food distribution, or program delivery.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Must attend six mandatory 'Pop Up & Give' events per year.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid Food Handlers Card in accordance with Southern Nevada Health District requirements.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license and reliable transportation for work-related travel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including warehouse settings, community distribution sites, and while operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods while driving and to stand, walk, bend, reach, and climb in and out of vehicles.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull food items and program materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform DOT-compliant pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking undercarriage components, tires, and safety equipment.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, noise, and warehouse environments is expected.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols are required and provided by the organization.
