EHS Specialist
Location: Selma, AL
Work Type: Full-time, Onsite
Compensation: $85,000 – $95,000 8% bonus eligibility
Schedule: First Shift (7:30 AM – 5:00 PM). Flexibility required to support other shifts as needed.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support and enhance our plant’s safety, environmental, and sustainability programs. In this hands-on role, you will partner closely with plant leadership and employees to drive a culture of safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and support environmental, health, and safety programs across the plant
- Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities
- Perform daily walkthroughs of production and logistics areas to identify hazards
- Maintain environmental permits, records, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Analyze EHS data and trends to develop actionable recommendations
- Participate in and lead safety committee and plant operational meetings
- Ensure timely and accurate incident reporting and assist with workers’ compensation inquiries
- Lead emergency response activities and preparedness efforts
- Implement and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification standards
- Drive sustainability initiatives to reduce energy consumption, waste, and water usage
- Support ergonomic assessments and participate in continuous improvement (Kaizen) projects
- Deliver safety training and support employee engagement initiatives
- Partner with plant management and cross-functional teams to promote a safe work environment
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Environmental, Safety, Chemical, or Ergonomic Engineering or a related field
- OR Associate’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience
- At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (automotive preferred)
- Experience leading EHS initiatives in a fast-paced production setting
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Ability to work hands-on on the plant floor and manage administrative responsibilities
- Ability to travel up to 20% for training or plant support
