Overview
Responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams including design engineers, machinists, and quality assurance to support production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement efficient CNC machining processes, including tooling, fixtures, and programming for multi-axis CNC machines.
- Create and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software, ensuring compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
- Analyze manufacturing workflows to identify opportunities for productivity improvements, cycle time reduction, and waste minimization.
- Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability of new products, providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input during the design phase.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for manufacturing issues, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Evaluate and select CNC equipment, tooling, and technologies to support production needs.
- Establish and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, setup sheets, and standard operating procedures.
- Train and mentor machine operators and staff on CNC processes, best practices, and quality standards.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, Six Sigma, and Kaizen projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in all manufacturing processes.
- 5 years of experience in CNC machining and manufacturing/process engineering, including Lean Manufacturing principles and process optimization.
- Hands-on experience with CNC machine programming, setup, and operation, including advanced skills such as probe and macro programming.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks CAD, Esprit CAM, NX CAM) and simulation tools (e.g., Vericut).
- In-depth knowledge of multi-axis CNC machining (3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills and multi-axis mill-turn lathes).
- Strong understanding of GD&T (ASNI Y14.5) and blueprint reading.
- Extensive knowledge of metrology and measurement systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (preferably Epicor) for production planning.
- Certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt and experience with AS9100 or ISO 9001 standards.
