Position Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer, M365, serves as a subject matter expert responsible for designing, administering, and optimizing the Microsoft 365 environment. This role focuses on Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, security and compliance, identity and access management, and automation.

This individual ensures the performance, security, and availability of M365 services while partnering with IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and brings deep technical expertise with a strategic mindset to support ongoing digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft 365 Engineering & Administration

• Design, implement, and maintain M365 solutions including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
• Monitor system health, performance, and scalability to ensure an optimal user experience.
• Administer email services, mail flow, and email security (Defender, SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
• Manage M365 security and compliance tools such as eDiscovery, DLP, retention, and litigation hold.
• Oversee licensing, subscriptions, and feature rollouts.
  
  

Identity & Access Management

• Administer Azure AD, Entra Connect, and hybrid identity environments.
• Configure Conditional Access, MFA, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
• Automate user lifecycle processes using PowerShell and Azure Automation.
  
  

Automation & Optimization

• Develop PowerShell scripts and automation workflows for administration and reporting.
• Drive efficiency through automation, configuration optimization, and IaC practices where applicable.
  
  

Collaboration, Security & Continuity

• Enhance Teams and SharePoint governance, adoption, and user experience.
• Implement M365 security best practices and support audit and compliance efforts (e.g., SOX).
• Administer backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Mentor junior team members and act as an escalation point for M365 issues.
• Engage with Microsoft support and third-party vendors as needed.
  
  

Experience Required Qualifications

• 7 years of IT experience, including 4 years administering and engineering Microsoft 365 and hybrid environments.
  
  

Technical Skills

• Strong expertise in Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and M365 Security & Compliance.
• Solid understanding of Active Directory, Azure AD, Entra Connect, and authentication protocols.
• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
• Experience with email security standards (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and Microsoft Defender.
• Familiarity with M365 compliance tools and SOX-related IT controls.
• Working knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs, and cloud networking concepts.
