What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reporter position at The Journal Gazette?
The Journal Gazette, the largest print news-gathering organization in northeast Indiana, is ready to hire an energetic reporter with the ability to identify daily and in-depth stories, with an emphasis on local government. The successful candidate to join our Fort Wayne-based team will be an individual with an ability to:
· Develop rapport with a variety of sources on a range of story topics
· Exercise good news judgment, breaking stories outside of news releases
· Be productive and still ensure fair and accurate reporting
· Write compelling daily and enterprise stories that inform and engage readers
· Be a team player who can work well with other reporters, editors and others on staff
· Be willing to accept coaching and constructive feedback
· Help grow our audience through promoting content on social media
· Show interest and commitment to professional growth and career development
· Show maturity and adapt to changes required in the evolving media landscape
Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field and at least two years of daily newspaper reporting experience.
Experience with Excel, spreadsheets and databases is a plus.
The local government part of the beat would include Fort Wayne City Council, Allen County Council and the county commissioners.
