Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform a comprehensive, accurate history and physical including chief complaint, presenting signs and symptoms, past medical history, and interval history. Recognize abnormal and significant findings and discuss with attending physician as appropriate.
- Order diagnostics and interpret abnormal findings.
- Discuss or staff cases with attending physician when appropriate per department standards based on acuity or venue.
- Initiate Basic/Advanced life support in response to emergency situations.
- Maintain technical proficiency with approved procedures including suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care.
- Initiate and prescribe medications.
- Complete all aspects of medical documentation in accordance with department standards.
- Arrange consultations and referrals when needed.
- Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on department protocols, operations, research, and procedures providing input and feedback.
- Remain proficient in the utilization of commonly used clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines.
- Remain abreast of new treatment modalities and technologies within the field of emergency medicine.
- Provider will work proficiently and autonomously in the various venues of ED.
- Use appropriate universal precautions for any contact, droplet, airborne pathogens.
- Attention to patient safety, personal safety, and safety of co-workers due to contact with potentially infected body fluids with blood borne pathogens.
- Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program.
- Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in related clinical area and obtained proficiency in area of specialty.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Five years related experience.
- Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date of direct patient care.
