The Johns Hopkins Medicine Simulation Center (JHMSC) is dedicated to supporting the growing use of simulation methodologies throughout medical education and professional practice. It provides consultative and supportive services for curriculum development, innovative instructional strategies, assessment methods, and faculty development in simulations for Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM) and the Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) as well as other Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) and Johns Hopkins University entities (Bayview Medical Center, School of Nursing, etc.) and external clients. The JHMSC has a special interest in resuscitation, crisis resource management, and simulation-based research. In an effort to advance the science of medical education and patient safety, simulations are conducted within the JHMSC and in the clinical environment (“in situ”).

We are seeking a Simulation Operations Specialist who is part of the JHMSC team responsible for simulation equipment management and operations of daily simulation functions. The incumbent reports to the Operations Manager and works collaboratively with all members of the Operations team and the JHMSC staff.

This role engages with activities related to center management and operations and learning support. Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Activity Support

  • Serves as the operator by running pre-developed scenarios with users.
  • Creates moulage according to users’ specifications.
  • Manages room set-up and clean-up for clinical simulations and debriefings; accountable for having the room props, equipment, and other resources prepared for the scheduled simulation activity.
  • Works closely with staff and faculty to ensure the smooth operation of educational activities.
  • Meets with potential users to identify resources, including but not limited to equipment, supplies, and space needed to accommodate requests.
  • Coordinates equipment transport and support for in situ events as needed.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of simulation theories and methodologies Equipment/Supplies.
  • Conducts routine inventory updates; requests additional supplies or equipment.
  • Understands the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulation to full-body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.
  • Maintains knowledge and basic troubleshooting for complex computer-based multimedia systems and their components Troubleshooting/Maintenance.
  • Performs minor maintenance according to manufacturer’s training and guidelines.
  • Participates in technical training as necessary; attend conferences to stay current with simulation technology.
  • Interfaces with the equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and systems problems; maintains record of repairs.
  • Provides high-level training to faculty and other users as needed.

Specific Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds to and from overhead locations.
  • Must be able to push/pull equipment up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to kneel/bend to retrieve and move materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • One year of basic allied health, simulation, or relevant experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EMT, CNA, or other similar allied-health related certification.
  • CPR certification

Starting Salary Range: $19.75 - $35.35 HRLY ($22.00/hour targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
