What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Monitor position at The Jesus Center?

Pallet Shelter Support Staff

Reports to: Shelter Site Coordinator

Purpose: Support Staff act as coaches, encouragers, teachers, and safety officers. The monitor helps participants find their rhythm at the Pallet Shelter, ensures the health and safety of each person, encourages a collaborative environment, and keeps systems going to support the individual’s work. This position requires a person to be able to multi-task, maintain patience, treat all occupants with dignity, use a trauma-sensitive approach and to guide occupants towards self-sufficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Conduct check-ins of new occupants at the shelter, provide orientation

· Ensure occupants are in compliance with the expectations of the shelter

· Oversee safety and security of occupants

· Interact with occupants, problem solve and deescalate conflict at necessary

· Answer and return phone calls with discretion, professionalism, and maintain confidentiality

· Complete all necessary paperwork, data entry, office work, staff reports

· Maintain a comprehensive and accurate written record of events that occur during shifts, as well as incident reports

· Maintain intake packets and other documents

· Conduct periodic unit inspections and monitor to ensure safety of occupants

· Follow through with all daily assigned tasks

· Check inventory of supplies

Qualifications:

· Strong communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.

· At least 1 year of clean/sober time.

· At least 1 year experience working with people in a social service setting

· Have a valid California Driver’s License

· Must have a High School diploma or GED

· Commitment to working as a team

· Ability to delegate tasks in a positive manner

· Ability to monitor shelter daily tasks and program

Skills:

· Basic computer knowledge i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc

· Attentive to details

· Critical thinking

· Good communication skills

· Crisis management

· Able to follow through with assigned tasks

Job Types: Part-time, Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
