Our client, a professional liability insurance company, is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to join their team. This full-time role reports to the VP of Underwriting and Chief Underwriting Officer and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating underwriting operations and policy issuance activities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and management of underwriting programs, policies, and guidelines.
- Act as a primary contact for underwriting matters with business partners.
- Review complex risks and programs to ensure compliance, consistency, and profitability.
- Approve, modify, or decline complex or unusual risks, escalating to senior leadership as appropriate.
- Evaluate departmental operations and metrics, driving improvements in workflow efficiency.
- Negotiate facultative reinsurance agreements and assign underwriting and binding authority.
- Collaborate with Compliance and Product Development on policy and endorsement development, including regulatory filings.
- Prepare underwriting reports for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Participate in company strategy development and oversee special projects as needed.
- Lead, coach, and evaluate underwriting staff, supporting ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) or equivalent relevant business experience required.
- Strong background in directors and officers liability and/or professional liability insurance required.
- Indiana resident insurance agent license in property and casualty (including surplus lines), or the ability to obtain licensure promptly; multi-state licensing also required.
- Prior supervisory or management experience.
- Experience with excess and surplus lines and financial institutions is a plus.
- Willingness to travel approximately 5–10%, including occasional overnight or weekend travel.
Salary : $120,000 - $150,000
