Commercial Auto Underwriter

We’re seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Auto Underwriter to lead our efforts in managing and shaping our commercial auto insurance book. In this critical role, you’ll influence profitability, ensure rate adequacy, and build strong relationships with agents and internal teams. Your expertise will support company growth and industry excellence while guiding less experienced underwriters and fostering collaboration across departments.

Required Skills:

• 4–6 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or a related role within insurance
• Deep knowledge of the Commercial Auto (CAR) manual, rules, and regulations
• Strong analytical skills and business judgment for risk assessment
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Proven negotiation, relationship management, and customer service skills
• Effective time management and organizational capabilities

Nice to Have Skills:

• Industry designations such as AU; progress toward CPCU or CIC preferred
• Experience working with agency management and supporting business development
• Familiarity with industry trends, market conditions, and fraud detection techniques

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field
• A track record of success within commercial lines underwriting, ideally 4 to 6 years or more

Important Details:

Schedule: 3 days in office. Can choose between offices in Webster or Boston.

Pay Range:

The anticipated pay range for this position is $95,000-$110,000 per year.

The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
