The Environmental Health and Safety Manager at The Jackson Laboratory is responsible for leading environmental health and safety at designated production and/or research laboratory location(s). Leading and maintaining comprehensive environmental health and safety operations which includes adhering to the EHS management system and continuous improvement of associated programs for a production and/or research laboratory-based organization. Such operations include supporting laboratory safety (biosafety, chemical and radiation safety), industrial safety, and environmental protection. Lead and mentor team and manage contractor activity, drive performance improvements measured by leading and lagging indicators. Incumbent will lead a proactive customer/client centric hands-on approach to promote, foster and support leadership driven, injury free culture in compliance with applicable Laboratory policies and local, state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Lead team to deliver effective coverage and support of all environmental occupational health and safety programs and services in a proactive customer centric manner.
- Maintain primary environmental protection responsibilities which includes maintaining and supporting the management of regulatory permits, and all associated reporting.
- Manage current Environmental Health and Safety programs towards identifying opportunities and problem solve to improve operational efficiencies and their successful implementation.
- Partner with leadership to promote a culture of safety, deliver appropriate training, and develop the appropriate metrics to measure effectiveness.
- Manage the compliance of Environmental Health and Safety programs with applicable Laboratory policies and local, state and federal regulations.
- Build relationships within the Laboratory community to support a collaborative atmosphere for the successful implementation of EHS programs and corresponding employee learning and training safety initiatives. Ability to motivate and lead others toward accomplishment of individual and shared objectives with the goal to create a leadership driven injury-free culture. Advanced interpersonal relationship skills sufficient to allow for developing complex dynamic relationships with a diverse variety of individuals representing a broad cross section of cultures, disciplines and levels of sophistication.
- Lead the site emergency response team as Incident Commander and coordinate site Emergency Action Plan through preparation & planning, during events, and recovery operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental, health and safety, engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Current certification and training commensurate with a practicing safety professional in environmental health and safety.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills including analytical skills for summarizing and presenting data in a logical, clear and concise manner.
- Ability to successfully execute, manage, prioritize and delegate projects; remain calm and effective in emergency or difficult situations; and to exercise fiscal responsibility in planning, develop and working within budget.
- Two or more years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety compliance and management systems, preferably in a similar industry.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, laws, and standards such as OSHA, EPA, etc.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- A high level of initiative, self-motivation, and accountability.
- Experience with lean production systems is desirable.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 preferred
