The Italian Daughter is seeking an experienced Guest Service Maître D’ with a warm, engaging personality, a polished presence, and a true passion for hospitality.
This is a hands-on role for a confident professional who knows how to work a dining room, build relationships, anticipate needs, and take ownership of the guest experience. Experience in fine dining Italian restaurants is required. We are looking for someone who understands the standards of refined service while bringing the warmth and personal attention that define Italian hospitality.
The Role As our Guest Service Maître D’, you will be a visible, welcoming presence throughout service—from the first greeting to the final farewell. You will oversee the flow of arrivals and seating, stay connected with guests throughout their meals, and work closely with management, hosts, servers, and the kitchen to create a seamless dining experience. Success in this position means reading the room, recognizing when a guest needs attention, and stepping in with confidence and good judgment. You must be equally comfortable welcoming a regular, introducing yourself to a first-time guest, managing a busy entrance, and resolving a concern with grace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a memorable welcome. Greet guests warmly and professionally, setting the tone for their experience from the moment they arrive.
- Work the dining room. Engage naturally with guests, check on their experience, and provide thoughtful attention without interrupting their evening.
- Build lasting guest relationships. Learn names, remember preferences, recognize regulars, and help new guests feel at home.
- Manage reservations and seating. Coordinate table assignments, special requests, arrival times, and waitlists while balancing guest preferences with the needs of service.
- Anticipate needs. Notice special occasions, service delays, unanswered questions, or signs of dissatisfaction and act before small issues become larger concerns.
- Resolve problems with professionalism. Listen carefully, remain composed, and follow through on solutions in coordination with management.
- Support the service team. Communicate clearly with hosts, servers, bartenders, and the kitchen so that guest requests and important details are handled accurately.
- Make celebrations feel personal. Help coordinate birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions with care and attention to detail.
- Maintain hospitality standards. Uphold a polished entrance, an organized host stand, and a welcoming atmosphere throughout service.
- Own the follow-through. Ensure concerns are addressed and guests leave knowing their experience mattered.
The Ideal Candidate:
You have an excellent personality and the ability to connect comfortably with a wide range of people. You are personable, observant, articulate, and composed under pressure. You know when to engage, when to give guests space, and how to make someone feel genuinely cared for. You also bring:
- Demonstrated experience in a maître d’, guest relations, or comparable dining room leadership role within fine dining Italian restaurants.
- A strong understanding of dining room etiquette, service timing, and guest expectations.
- Familiarity with Italian cuisine and wine, with a willingness to learn our menu thoroughly.
- Excellent communication, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities during busy service without losing warmth or professionalism.
- Confidence handling guest concerns with empathy, discretion, and accountability.
- Experience using reservation systems and coordinating dining room seating.
- A collaborative attitude, dependable work habits, and a polished professional appearance.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
