The Island Water Association, a member-owned water utility serving the islands of
Sanibel and Captiva, Florida, is now accepting applications for a Distribution Technician.
This position works under the supervision of a department manager for operation, maintenance and repair of water mains, service lines, hydrants and valves. Responsibilities also include performing utility locates, traffic control, maintaining water quality through flushing, sampling and verification of chlorine residuals. The position requires on-call availability and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The ideal candidate is hard-working, dependable and enjoys working outdoors performing a wide variety of duties. Qualified candidates will have a background in plumbing or backflow, heavy equipment operation, water distribution or equivalent experience. The successful candidate must possess or be able to obtain within 24 months of hire a state of Florida Level 3 or higher Water Distribution System Operator
License.
Motivated, hard-working candidates without experience will be considered. The tasks assigned to the position are generally performed outside, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain. The position requires significant physical exertion, including walking, standing, stooping, hand-digging, and lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects up to 50 pounds. Candidates must have a valid Florida driver’s license. Pre-employment physical and drug screening required.
