Substitute teachers play a vital role in maintaining continuity of learning and supporting student success. They ensure that classroom instruction continues smoothly in the absence of the regular teacher, fostering a stable and engaging environment for students. At The Island School, substitutes uphold our commitment to academic excellence and social-emotional growth by providing consistent, responsive, and effective instruction. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction to small classes, typically comprising up to 18 students.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages active learning and respect among students.
  • Implement lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher, ensuring continuity of learning.
  • Adapt to various grade levels and subjects as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a broad understanding of elementary education.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and staff to support the school's mission and community values.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Genuine passion for working with children and a commitment to their holistic development.
  • Strong understanding of social-emotional learning principles.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
