Job Title: Furniture Woodworking Assistant (Part-Time)
Location: Bloomington, Indiana, Workshop with Air Conditioning and Heating. Small, Friendly Team
Hours: 20 hours/week, flexible afternoon shift any time between noon – 5PM on weekdays
Position Overview: We’re seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Sander/Packer to join our small team in an air-conditioned and heated workshop. The Iron Roots Designs is an established, but small, high end furniture manufacturing company that crafts minimalist furniture and lamps from solid hardwood. The sander/packer will be involved in the final steps of the production process from sanding the built furniture, oiling the built furniture, to packaging the finished products. We are looking for someone who likes to learn and is interested in growing with the company over the years
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys independently working with their hands, learning new skills, enjoys repetitive tasks like sanding or bubble wrapping, and has an interest in the art of furniture making, and contributing to high-quality craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:
- Sand furniture pieces to create smooth surfaces
- Apply an oil finish to products prior to final assembly
- Assemble wood products with precision and care
- Carefully pack finished products using bubble wrap and packaging materials
- Keep the workshop clean and organized throughout the day
- Work independently while staying on task and meeting deadlines
- Assisting the woodworking team and learning the craft when needed
Requirements:
- Ability to regularly lift 20–60 lbs
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
- Can work well independently and maintain focus
- Comfortable using (or learning to use) woodworking sanding tools and equipment
- Fast learner with good communication and organizational skills
- Keep a tidy working space
Preferred Qualifications:
- Past experience in packaging large products for shipment (not required—training provided)
Compensation & Benefits:
- Starting wage is $15/ hour
- Periodic raises and bonuses to reward excellent performance
- Flexible 4 hour shift from between Noon-5pm
