What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Researcher position at The Irimia Laboratory?
Our goal is to develop the next generation of AI methods for understanding the human brain by combining machine learning with large-scale neuroimaging, genetics, and transcriptomics. We are particularly interested in research that is both methodologically innovative and biologically meaningful.
Current areas of research include:
• Artificial intelligence for neuroimaging
• Brain aging and neurodegenerative disease
• Interpretable and explainable deep learning
• Imaging genetics and polygenic risk
• Spatial transcriptomics
• Multimodal biomarker discovery
• Precision neuroscience
Our group works with some of the world’s largest neuroimaging datasets, including UK Biobank, ADNI, NACC, HCP, and TRACK-TBI, as well as unique multimodal datasets integrating MRI, genomics, and transcriptomics. The lab is supported by multiple active NIH grants and offers outstanding computational resources and extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
I am looking for creative, independent scientists who enjoy tackling difficult problems and who aspire to become leaders in academia or industry. Candidates with backgrounds in machine learning, computer science, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, statistics, applied mathematics, physics, or related quantitative disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Ideal candidates will have:
• A strong publication record
• Excellent programming skills (Python and deep learning frameworks)
• Experience with machine learning, medical imaging, computational biology, or related fields
• A desire to pursue ambitious, high-impact research
Postdoctoral fellows will have substantial scientific independence, opportunities to initiate their own projects, collaborate with investigators across USC and other institutions, and receive mentorship aimed at launching successful independent careers.
