About the Role
The Intersect Group is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant I to support daily accounting operations and the monthly financial close process. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent accounting graduate or early career professional to develop practical experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and GAAP compliance. In this role, you will prepare journal entries, analyze financial transactions, maintain accurate accounting records, and assist with financial reporting. You will also collaborate with internal teams to research discrepancies, resolve accounting inquiries, and support the accuracy and efficiency of financial processes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, including expense allocations, accruals, and routine financial transactions.
- Assist with monthly financial close activities and the preparation of financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP.
- Compile, analyze, and reconcile financial information to ensure accurate general ledger records.
- Maintain documentation of financial transactions and support internal accounting controls and procedures.
- Review and validate general ledger activity reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and respond to inquiries from internal business partners.
- Collaborate with accounting team members to meet reporting deadlines and improve financial processes.
Qualifications
- 0 to 2 years of general accounting experience. Recent graduates and candidates with relevant accounting internship experience are encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Required Skills
- Foundational understanding of accounting principles, general ledger transactions, and GAAP.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines while communicating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SAP or BlackLine accounting software is a plus.
- Previous accounting experience in a retail environment is preferred but not required.
- Interest in pursuing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is a plus.
