About the Role
In this important role, you will observe and report all safety and/or security hazards relating to visitors, members, and other employees; as well as detect and report any damage to property and collections under the supervision of a Security Supervisor and/or Assistant Manager – Security Operations.
This position is scheduled for the Graveyard Shift: 11:30pm-8:00am.
S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.

About the Role

Essential Duties
- Duties include performing security patrols by foot or vehicle, answering visitor inquiries, responding to emergencies according to defined procedures; and monitoring the movement of staff, visitors, assets, equipment and materials.
- Ensures the museum environment is safe for all patrons, employees, and other visitors by preventing theft, vandalism, and hazardous activities.
- Enforces museum safety and security policies and regulations as directed.
- Monitors employees entering and exiting the building, checking packages, directing vendors and visitors.
- Conducts patrols as assigned, and remains vigilant at all times, communicating observations to security control and security management.
- Remains flexible and collaborative, assisting with a variety of projects and tasks as directed.
- Arrives on time and has consistent attendance.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Experience in security, public safety, military and/or customer service preferred.
- The ability to communicate clearly in person, in writing and via radio is required.
- Must be able to complete security forms and write reports.
- Flexible schedule including overtime, evening, and weekend work
- Must have a current valid California Drivers License.
- This position requires standing for long periods (an average of 8 hours per shift) and the ability to wear a radio earpiece at a normal volume setting.
- Must be able to respond quickly in the event of an emergency; may be required to operate a golf cart to conduct patrols.
- Performance of essential functions requires remaining alert at all times, regular moderate physical mobility and exertion in walking, climbing stairs, and standing for several hours.
- Security Officers are required to work outdoors and in occasional inclement weather. Work may require strenuous physical activity related to responding to emergencies. Must be able to bend, twist, reach, and lift up to 30 pounds.
May work in hazardous conditions associated with an emergency event (e.g., inclement weather).
