Duties
- Safely operate school buses according to traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
- Transport students to designated locations, including schools, community centers, and extracurricular activities, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.
- Assist students with disabilities or special needs by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring their safety during transit.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols when necessary.
- Maintain clear communication with school staff, parents, and students to coordinate schedules and address any concerns promptly. (ie attendance, route delays, or behavior concerns)
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical safety, proper functioning of safety equipment, and compliance with state and local commercial driving laws.
- Promptly prepare written reports detailing any accidents, incidents, or identified safety hazards.
- Maintain accurate daily transportation logs.
- Manage student behavior through effective behavior management techniques while fostering a positive environment onboard the vehicle.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. (No major violations in the past 5 years.)
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit bus operations. (minimum of 1 year preferred)
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and required health clearances.
- Familiarity with child discipline policies, student behavior management strategies, and policies related to transportation safety.
- Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations while maintaining passenger safety at all times.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to child safety and positive youth development.
