ASSISTANT DEAN & REGISTRAR, Full-Time
The Hochstein School is a vibrant organization in Rochester, NY, offering instruction in music, dance, and therapeutic arts. Hochstein annually serves more than 3,900 students from a 12-county region surrounding Rochester. The School is active throughout the community and provides tuition assistance to more than 50% of its students. The acclaimed Hochstein Performance Hall, located within the school's historic downtown building, hosts frequent concerts and events. The position is based on-site at The Hochstein School in Rochester and reports directly to the President & Executive Director.
The Assistant Dean & Registrar serves as one of the primary registrars for the School. This position provides an opportunity to work closely with students, parents, and music and dance faculty as part of an administrative staff in a lively community school setting.
Duties include:
· Registration:
· Advising students and parents about Hochstein programs and curriculum
· Registering and scheduling students through ActiveNet registration system; schedule adjustments, credits, and financial adjustments as needed
· Processing Tuition Assistance applications and overall oversight of tuition assistance application submissions in collaboration with Front Office Coordinator
· Acting as a resource for parents, students, and faculty to trouble-shoot any issues as they arise
· Serving as the main contact with faculty and students/parents on student attendance issues
· Overseeing and administering Hochstein’s student instrument rental program
· Engaging in annual Faculty Review process, as assigned by Dean of Students and in coordination with Department Chairs
· Observation of new faculty, writing up assessments, and conducting follow-up meetings with faculty and department chair
· Helping assess continuing faculty through faculty activities report, teacher evaluations, and other feedback mechanisms
· Participating in new faculty hiring process with Deans and Department Chairs
· Engaging in programmatic conversations and decisions with other Dean Staff and President/Executive Director as needed
· Working with Staff Accountant and Director of Finance & Accounting on past-due account information and processing drops
· Representing Hochstein at selected special programs and events presented by the School (both onsite and off-site)
· Advising and supporting Front Office staff when on duty as Assistant Dean
Ideal Qualifications:
- Passion for The Hochstein School’s mission and values
· Master of Music degree preferred, Bachelor’s Degree required
- At least 2 years’ experience working in an administrative capacity, preferably in a non-profit setting
- Related experience as a music or dance educator (lesson/class teacher, ensemble director, school teacher); previous teaching experience in an arts setting desirable
- Skills and enthusiasm for working with children/youth and their parents, as well as adults
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple, varied duties effectively
· Excellent attention to detail
· Facile communication skills, both oral and written
· Excellent word processing skills and experience (Microsoft Word. Excel, Google Workspace); fluency in various computer applications is highly desirable
· Facility in working well both independently and collaboratively with others.
Salary Range: $44,000 - $49,000 annually

Work Schedule:
Regular School Year: Monday 12:00-8:00 pm; Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm; Friday, 9:00 am–6:00 pm; Saturdays, 8:30 am-2:30 pm; Wednesdays off.
Summer Session: Hours are adjusted to reflect no Saturdays and shorter Friday operation hours: Monday 12:00-8:00 pm; Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
In-Between Sessions: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm.
Hours and days may be modified as needed to meet the needs of the School and the employee’s schedule, as mutually agreed upon.
