What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Teacher position at The Hitchcock School?
The Hitchcock School is searching for an energetic, experienced educator to be an Teacher in our Summer Camp with 2-year old, 3-year old, and 4-year old classes. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting a classroom teacher in the general supervision and management of a classroom in accordance with the philosophy, goals and curriculum of The Hitchcock School’s licensed preschool program. The Lead Teacher is responsible for all curriculum planning as well as management of the classroom.
Responsibilities of Teachers:
· Assist in planning and conducting an effective child development program to meet the physical, intellectual, social, language and emotional needs of each child.
· Assist in planning, preparing, and implementing daily activities as they relate to the curriculum.
· Ensure the safety of the children through constant supervision of activities, effective arrangement of space and proper maintenance of equipment, while creating a pleasant, inviting classroom atmosphere for children.
· Establish positive relationships with children, their families, and fellow staff members that reflect the ethos of the school, while maintaining a professional attitude.
· Assume responsibility for directing classroom activities when Lead Teacher is not present in the room.
· Assist the Lead Teacher in ensuring that parents receive adequate information about their child's school experience through daily contact and regularly scheduled parent-teacher conferences, using written progress records of each child’s growth and development.
· Maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to children in your class.
· Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, and courses to promote professional growth. Thirty (30) hours of training is required for every two-year period.
Qualified Candidates will have:
· An associate’s degree in early childhood education. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Experience in child instruction and/or supervision
· A collaborative, team-oriented temperament
· The ability to be flexible and adaptive to changing needs and priorities
· Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills

About The Hitchcock School:
The Hitchcock School was founded in 1961 in Scarsdale, New York. Its classrooms occupy the first and second floor of the Memorial Building at the historic Hitchcock Presbyterian Church. The school itself is non-denominational and welcomes families of any religious affiliation.
The Hitchcock School offers a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, play-based program for children ages two to four, as well as a toddler program for 12 to 24 month old children. Our diverse community fosters sharing, understanding, and respect while focusing on the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child. We celebrate each child’s unique gifts and are dedicated to teaching children to become confident learners, passionate explorers, and discerning risk-takers.
The School is registered with the New York State Education Department, and licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Full enrollment is currently 76 students among six classes. Each class is taught by two teachers. We offer programs for the following age groups:
· 2 year olds: 5 mornings per week (1 class, 9 students per day)
· 3 year olds: 5 mornings per week (2 classes of 12 students) option for extended day
· 4 year olds: 5 mornings per week (2 classes of 15 students) option for extended day
The Hitchcock School also offers special activities, such as weekly Musical Munchkins classes, science and nature educators, and visits with community helpers. Partnering with the active Parents Association, the school offers many opportunities for families to be involved outside of school hours with events like the annual Halloween party, play dates in the park, a multicultural luncheon, and various fundraising initiatives.
