Position Summary
The Hill School seeks a dynamic and collaborative educator to serve as an Instructor of Spanish and potentially lead the World Languages Department. The successful candidate will teach Spanish courses while providing leadership and strategic direction for the World Languages Department. This position combines classroom teaching, departmental leadership, student mentorship, and participation in the broader residential life of the School.
As Department Chair, this individual would cultivate a department culture characterized by intellectual curiosity, collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to preparing students to engage thoughtfully and confidently in a multilingual and interconnected world. Working closely with the Academic Dean, Dean of Faculty, and departmental colleagues, the Chair fosters excellence in teaching and learning, support faculty development, oversee curriculum and departmental initiatives, and promote language acquisition and intercultural competence throughout the School community.

Ideally, a successful candidate will possess prior experience teaching Spanish and departmental leadership. The Instructor will also be expected to undertake responsibilities that are normally associated with a boarding school, such as serving on various school committees and participating in the school's co-curricular and residential programs. Experience and demonstrated success working with diverse student communities is preferred, but not required. A bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Start date for this position is July 1, 2026.

More specifically, faculty responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Teach three to four sections of Spanish or a combination of World Languages courses as determined by departmental needs;
- The ability to develop curriculum and work collaboratively with colleagues at each level;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Writing the official school course comment on each student;
- Writing recommendations to college and various programs on behalf of individual students;
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students, parents, advisors, and colleagues regarding student progress;
- Mentor students pursuing advanced study, travel, exchange opportunities, and other language-related interests;
- Fulfilling other residential school duties and co-curricular responsibilities as deemed appropriate for the position.
- Curricular oversight and Pedagogical leadership: ? Develop and review the department's academic program, which includes overseeing curriculum development and revisions. ? Review and assess the department's academic programs and initiate new academic programs and projects when appropriate. Serve as a departmental and campus leader in curriculum and pedagogy and guide conversations about teaching and learning.
- Management and mentorship: With frequent one-on-one and departmental communication, serve as a role model, guide, and coach to promote faculty development, collegiality, and expectations around professional excellence. ? Support teachers through regular class visits and growth-oriented feedback. Work closely with the Academic Dean and Dean of Faculty to identify, recruit, and retain outstanding new faculty.
- Representation: Represent the interests of their department to the broader institution through committee work such as Academic Council and other committees as assigned. ? Serve as a channel of communication on program, personnel, and budgetary matters.
- Student oversight: Provide leadership and vision for the department, which includes student achievement. ? Establish standards for evaluating student achievement, including gathering data on assessments. ? Communicate regularly with students and use student input to shape the department's policies and procedures.
- Budget and logistics: Manage and allocate the department's resources, including budget, space, and equipment.
- Publicly support the mission and vision of The Hill School in a positive and professional manner.
