POSITION SUMMARY: As the Business Development Manager of HPI’s Education Studio, you will lead and manage the business development activities and initiatives for HPI’s thriving, well-established team, inclusive of both higher education and the k-12 marketplace. The geographic focus of this role includes Southern & Northern California. This position offers the flexibility to be based out of either our Orange County or San Diego County office.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead and coordinate all business development activities related to the Education marketplace in collaboration with the Principals.Develop and maintain a strong market understanding, research market trends, and share this knowledge with HPI’s professionals in the market.Develop, in collaboration with leadership and market sector colleagues, a Business Development Plan including strategic visioning, development of initiatives, a business development budget, and revenue projection. Strategically identify opportunities and potential relationships, as well as nurture existing relationships.Facilitate the introduction of potential clients to the appropriate members of the firm.Attend industry networking events/conferences and actively participate in relevant associations.Pursue and follow up leads in the market as directed and in collaboration with the Principals.Track target clients, industry leads and opportunities, as well as relationship engagement.Evaluate opportunities (i.e., potential fee, length of engagement, quality of design, credibility of client) and lead the Go/No-Go decision process.Collaborate with the Marketing team in the RFP/RFQ response process to develop the unique value proposition and ensure responses reflect the needs, goals, splinters and personality of the targeted client.Collaborate with the Marketing team in the development and tracking of education sector marketing initiatives.Work with Project teams on interview preparation including the message and delivery.Work with leadership to review, refine, and implement technology strategies into the firm specific to CRM.Develop and track KPI’s relative to business development efforts.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIESExcellent interpersonal communication skills.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.Strong understanding of the California education market, including K12, community colleges, small private universities, and student housing.Established network of contacts within the education sector of the A/E/C (architecture, engineering, construction) industry, including education clients, program managers, construction managers, general contractors, engineers, consultants, and professional organizations such as CASH, CCFC, SCUP, CMAA, and SMPS.REQUIREMENTS5 or more years of related experience in business development in a professional services field – preferably, the AEC industryResident of Southern California.Availability for regular travel within Southern California region.Availability for occasional overnight travel outside Southern California.PHYSICAL STANDARDS: Positions in this class are situated in a standard office environment, resulting in little exposure to the weather and requiring no unusual physical abilities. Other requirements include:Near and visual acuity to interpret written documentation, reading very small print, maintains accurate records, recognizes people and provide direction.
