What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Assistant position at The Highlands Living Center?
The primary purpose of your job is to provide an environment enriched with quality-of-life activity programming for the geriatric population.
Performance Outcomes
- Responsible for all mandated documentation for assigned residents, i.e., initial assessments, care planning, quarterly and annual reviews.
- Attend interdisciplinary family care plan meeting and clinical meeting as scheduled.
- Planning of monthly activities calendar with recreation team.
- Implement large and small group activities as scheduled on the monthly calendar.
- Responsible for transporting resident to all activity programs.
- Responsible for individual contact of assigned residents.
- Documentation of 1:1 visits if resident is on 1:1 visit list.
- Encourage residents to function at their maximum level of independent cognitive and physical capability.
- Contribute to the residents’ right by adhering to the Resident Bill Rights.
- Maintain enthusiasm and motivation with the residents and staff.
- Maintains work area in a neat, organized manner.
- Develop a positive relationship with active family members and encourage their involvement in all programs.
- Delivery residents mail as needed.
- Direct volunteers, as necessary, to assist them in any way possible.
- Will assist the nursing with passing trays as needed.
- Responsible for transporting resident to all activity programs.
- Give any needed direction to the Recreation Assistants to ensure the residents receive optimal service from the Recreation Department.
- Conduct his/herself in a professional manner at all times to create a cohesive work environment.
- Attend all mandatory in-services according to facility policy, NYSDOH, HIPPA and OSHA guidelines.
- Responsible for purchasing activity material as needed. I.e. baking, arts & craft and equipment.
- Work rotated weekends when needed or necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or related field and one year experience in Recreation Therapy with the geriatric population. Or minimum four years’ experience in Recreation field with geriatric population. NYS required documentation experience preferred.
Memory care/Dementia experience preferred.
Pay Range: $17.50hr.-$26.50hr.
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
