HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to support research and education projects. This role will contribute to the coordination and facilitation of research projects in the Military Nutrition Environment (MNE) portfolio by supporting human subjects and population-level research to collect data on food environments, dietary intake, nutrient biomarkers, and dietary behaviors to study their impact on service member health, readiness, and performance. This position will assist with study site logistics and contribute across the MNE research and education portfolio. Responsibilities may be adjusted to reflect changes in staffing or project priorities.

This position will support the Advanced Research for Military Optimization, Readiness and Rehabilitation (ARMORR) at Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with study site logistics, including site visit preparation and execution.
  • Supports data collection for nutrition-related research studies.
  • Recruits and obtains informed consent from participants.
  • Assists with administrative research tasks.
  • Contributes nutrition knowledge to support study interventions, resources, and training for participants and external stakeholders.
  • Assists in preparing written reports for stakeholders and developing abstracts, manuscripts, and posters for scientific journals and conferences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance and participation in required training.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred; degrees and/or experience in, nutrition, dietetics, health promotion, public health, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of nutrition or health promotion.
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Experience with nutrition-related research and/or nutrition programs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly range for this position is $22.16-$31.25. Actual hourly rate will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
