HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. The Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves less complex problems in carrying out research projects in a laboratory environment.
This position will be in support of the Davis-Takacs Lab in the Department of Pharmacology. Research in the Davis-Takacs Laboratory focuses on understanding the effects of ionizing radiation exposure on the central nervous system (CNS), and how these exposures result in short- and long-term deficits in cognition. We are particularly interested understanding how chronic low dose exposures and delayed effects of acute radiation syndrome alter neuroinflammatory processes and gene expression in specific brain regions to develop biomarkers of and effective countermeasures for these deficits.

Responsibilities
- Performs research projects, including the collection and organization of data. Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner. Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
- Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
- Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data.
- Will handle live lab animals (Mice and Rats) and perform SOPs including behavioral testing and collecting blood and tissue samples.
- Performs bench work including immunohistochemistry, PCR, microscopy, digital droplet, RNA extraction, ELISA, and other cellular and molecular assays.
- Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Creates and communicates detailed observations on experiments.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required; Neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience, psychology, biology, or related degree preferred.
- Minimum of 0-2 years experience required
- Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques required.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Experience with Word Processing and Excel.
- Experience with statistical software such as R or Python is a plus.
- Must be willing to work with animal models (Rats and Mice). Prior experience is a plus.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to obtain a T1/Public Trust Background check.
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
- The hourly pay range for this position is $19.33-$25.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
