Position Overview
The Executive Director is a full-time, paid professional responsible for developing, implementing, and documenting the local Main Street program in accordance with Florida and National Main Street accreditation standards. Reporting to the Board, this role provides leadership to staff and volunteers, represents Tarpon Springs regionally, and ensures sustained community and municipal support.
This position requires a collaborative, community-minded professional with strong organizational leadership, fundraising, and economic development experience. The ideal candidate brings creativity, compassion, and a passion for urban revitalization.
Key Responsibilities
Program Administration & Accreditation
- Maintain Florida Main Street and National Main Street national accreditation baseline requirements: full-time staffing, Transformation Strategy, work plans, dedicated budget, municipal support, quarterly reinvestment reporting, and membership in good standing.
- Produce and submit required reports, deliverables, and statistics on reinvestment, business creation, and jobs quarterly.
- Attend required Florida Main Street training sessions, state and national conferences; develop onboarding and committee training locally.
Strategic Planning & Implementation
- Work with the Board and stakeholders to develop and refine a Transformation Strategy aligned with four‑point work plan across promotion, design, organization, and economic vitality.
- Oversee implementation of action plans: assign responsibilities, track timelines and budgets across all committees/programming.
- External Relations & Fundraising
- Serve as primary liaison to City staff, county officials, local businesses, property owners, and community stakeholders.
- Cultivate revenue via grants, sponsorships, events, membership, and fundraising efforts. Develop budget and financial oversight procedures, coordinate with treasurer/bookkeeper.
Events & Marketing
- Plan, execute, and manage district programs and large- and small-scale events—from concept through financial performance and alignment with organizational mission.
- Lead promotional and marketing activities, public awareness campaigns, and media outreach.
Volunteer & Committee Leadership
- Coordinate Main Street committees: facilitate collaboration, support volunteers, oversee outcomes and inter-committee communication.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, consultants, and temporary hires as needed.
- Design & Historic Preservation Support
- Assist property owners with façade improvement, preservation projects, façade grant programs; support design excellence in downtown improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Economic Development, Historic Preservation, or related field (Master's preferred).
- At least 3–5 years of professional experience in downtown revitalization, community development, historic preservation, or nonprofit management.
- Strong understanding of the Main Street Four‑Point Approach, accreditation standards, and ability to develop measurable work plans.
- Demonstrated success in grant writing, fundraising, and sponsorship development.
- Excellent communication, public speaking, event planning, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proven ability to manage staff, volunteers, budgets, and complex projects.
- Proficiency in reporting reinvestment metrics, financial oversight, and nonprofit governance.
- Ability to represent Tarpon Springs at state and national conferences and network with stakeholder organizations.
