JOB SUMMARY:
The Construction Project Accountant supports the financial management of a large pipeline construction project using project-based construction accounting principles. The role is responsible for job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, billing support, revenue recognition support, and financial compliance throughout the construction lifecycle. This position partners with Project Management, FP&A, and Construction teams to ensure accurate cost tracking, timely financial reporting, and disciplined cost control from early works through closeout.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain project-based accounting records and job cost structures, including tracking and reconciling labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor, and indirect construction costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and support month-end close activities in accordance with construction accounting standards.
- Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and compliance.
- Support construction billing, retainage tracking, and revenue recognition processes.
- Assist with budget setup, forecasting, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) updates.
- Track commitments, change orders, and cost variances.
- Support audits, financial controls, and project closeout activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, or related field
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-7 years of construction accounting experience, preferably in pipeline, heavy civil, or energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience in EPC, owner/operator, joint venture, or cost-sharing environments.
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction billing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, construction accounting, ERP / job-cost systems.
- Proficient in incident investigation and hazard analysis.
- Communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to perform under minimum supervision

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES:
- CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification (preferred)
