What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legislative Assistant position at The Hawai'i State Senate?
The Hawaiʻi State Senate is seeking Legislative Assistants for the 2026 Legislative Session. This temporary, full-time role is ideal for those with strong organizational and communication skills who want to make a direct impact on the community by supporting the legislative process. The term runs from December 2025 to May 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
Legislative Assistants support Senators' offices and committees, with core duties falling into three main areas:
- Policy/Committee: Conduct research, analyze legislation, track bills, coordinate public hearings, and handle constituent inquiries.
- Administration: Manage office operations (phones, email, files), draft correspondence and newsletters, respond to constituents, and assist with scheduling/data entry.
- Communications: Create and manage social media content, draft press releases, monitor media, and assist at events.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, but not required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with online meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.) is helpful.
- Customer service experience is desirable.
Benefits & Details:
- Salary: $2,800-$5,000 per month for full-time positions, commensurate with experience and responsibilities

- Temporary position: December 2025 – May 2026.
- Must be able to work in-person in Honolulu, Oahu.
