Our Office of General Counsel is seeking a *VP, Lead Counsel of Insurance Law & Government Affairs to join our team in Michigan or remote work arrangement.
*Flexible on level, would consider an AVP, Counsel of Insurance Law & Government
This is a full time, exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Group Counsel, Insurance Law and Government Affairs, this leader will serve as the primary Legal Adviser to West Zone Executive Vice President and other senior business leaders on all matters involving regulatory, compliance, business operations and government affairs for personal and commercial lines.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Serve as the primary legal advisor with respect to regulatory compliance, regulatory and government affairs, and business matters within assigned states.
Interact with and provide leadership within state and national trade associations and property/casualty industry organizations in matters pertaining to regulatory, legal, and business issues.
Serve as a leader within the Office of the General Counsel and within the Company.
Act as a trusted legal advisor, establishing and driving regulatory and compliance policies throughout the LOB operations.
Serve as a business partner, assisting in a variety of transactions which may include joint ventures, partnerships, distribution agreements and other development and business opportunities.
Provide legal advice in the development and implementation of new products/policy forms and the maintenance of existing products/policy forms for all LOB operations.
Manage shared resources assigned to support the responsibilities listed above. Manage external legal expenses associated with the responsibilities listed above. Retain and consult with outside counsel on matters, as appropriate.
Support the overall Office of the General Counsel regulatory compliance and business operations, as appropriate.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate required.
Minimum of 10 years professional experience with demonstrated property and casualty and insurance regulatory legal experience and knowledge.
Ability to manage the legal aspects of a large property and casualty business unit or division.
Excellent legal technical abilities with knowledge of LOB insurance regulatory and compliance matters.
Strong executive presence and the ability to persuade, negotiate and make effective presentations to large and small groups at all levels in the organization.
Ability to create an environment that encourages collaboration, accountability, respect, and empowerment consistent with Hanover’s CARE values and a highly ethical culture.
