What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Sales Manager position at The Hangar Indy?
Event Sales Manager
The Hangar | Downtown Indianapolis, IN
Compensation: $60,000–$70,000 base salary up to $40,000 in annual performance bonuses
Total earning potential: $100,000–$110,000 per year
The Opportunity
Love people? Love selling? Want to help build something bigger than yourself?
We're looking for a talented, driven, entrepreneurial-minded Event Sales Manager to join our small leadership team at The Hangar in downtown Indianapolis.
Your mission is simple: Win new business, create unforgettable experiences, make people happy, and help us grow.
You'll lead sales and client relationships for our unique 7,500-square-foot event venue, working with corporate clients, event organizers, and groups planning everything from company celebrations and team-building experiences to holiday parties and large private events.
This isn't a typical corporate sales job. You'll have real autonomy, direct access to ownership, the freedom to bring creative ideas to life, and the opportunity to earn significant performance-based compensation.
We're a growing local business, not a corporate machine. We move quickly, give our people responsibility, and believe the best ideas can come from anyone.
A Little About Us
For more than a decade, we've been bringing people together through The HandleBar Pedal Pubs. In 2023, we launched The Hangar, a one-of-a-kind downtown Indianapolis venue for private events, corporate outings, entertainment, and unforgettable group experiences.
Our purpose is simple: Make People Happy.
Our Mission: To become the Go-To Provider of unique group experiences in Indy.
Our values drive everything we do:
- Be a great teammate to each other, our customers and our community.
- Make it fun.
- Obliterate expectations.
- See challenges as opportunities for WOW moments.
We're growing, and we want someone who's excited to help build what's next.
What You'll Actually Do
Drive Sales & Grow the Business
- Own incoming event inquiries, build relationships, and turn leads into bookings.
- Host venue tours, create compelling proposals, and close deals.
- Develop relationships with corporate clients, event planners, and repeat customers.
- Follow up proactively with prospects and identify opportunities to grow revenue.
- Help develop creative packages, experiences, and sales strategies.
Create Outstanding Guest Experiences
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the event planning process.
- Help customers envision and create events that exceed their expectations.
- Coordinate event details with our operations team to ensure seamless execution.
- Attend select events to support important clients, solve problems, and ensure guests have an amazing experience.
- Build relationships that lead to repeat business and referrals.
Help Build a Better Business
- Work directly with ownership and our leadership team to improve how we operate.
- Identify opportunities to streamline sales, planning, and communication.
- Collaborate on pricing, products, marketing, and new experience ideas.
- Support our venue team with scheduling, staffing, and operational coordination when needed.
- Take ownership of challenges and help develop solutions.
You'll have support from our Event Leads, bar team, and kitchen team, who handle much of the day-to-day event execution. Your primary focus will be selling, planning, client relationships, and growing the business.
What a Typical Day Might Look Like
Morning: Respond to new inquiries, follow up with prospects, create proposals, and close a few deals.
Late Morning: Give a venue tour to a company planning its annual holiday party. Help them envision something far better than another boring corporate event.
Afternoon: Collaborate with our operations team on an upcoming event, brainstorm a creative new experience, or improve a process that's slowing us down.
Evening: Stop by a big event you helped sell. Say hello to the organizer, make sure the team is crushing it, and watch hundreds of people having an awesome time.
No two days are exactly alike. Some are focused on sales, others on relationships, planning, and problem-solving.
Who We're Looking For
We're less interested in impressive résumés and fancy job titles than we are in character, drive, and demonstrated ability to get results.
You'll probably thrive here if you:
- Love sales. You enjoy building relationships, winning business, and exceeding goals.
- Love people. Hospitality comes naturally, and making someone else's day genuinely makes yours better.
- Think like an owner. You take initiative, solve problems, and don't wait around for someone to tell you what to do.
- Are highly organized. You can juggle multiple clients, proposals, events, and deadlines without dropping the ball.
- Are entrepreneurial. You enjoy improving things, trying new ideas, and helping grow a business.
- Communicate exceptionally well. You're equally comfortable talking to corporate executives, event organizers, and frontline teammates.
- Are a great teammate. You work hard, stay humble, and don't take yourself too seriously.
Proven success in sales, account management, or relationship-driven roles is strongly preferred. Experience in event sales, hospitality, hotels, or entertainment venues is a plus, but not a requirement.
We're willing to teach the right person the event industry. Drive, judgment, initiative, and a genuine desire to make people happy are harder to teach.
Compensation & What You Can Expect From Us
Competitive Compensation
- Base salary: $60,000–$70,000, depending on experience.
- Performance-based bonus opportunity: Up to $40,000 annually.
- Total annual earning potential: $100,000–$110,000, based on results.
Autonomy & Ownership
We don't believe in micromanagement. You'll have meaningful responsibility, room to make decisions, and a direct voice in how the business grows.
Professional Growth
Work directly with the owners of a successful, growing Indianapolis hospitality business. You'll have opportunities to expand your responsibilities, develop new skills, and help shape our future.
Time Away
We provide up to four weeks off per year.
A Fun, Fast-Moving Workplace
You'll work alongside a close-knit team that genuinely cares about each other and takes pride in creating outstanding guest experiences.
The Reality of the Job
We believe in being upfront.
Hospitality isn't always a 9-to-5 business. Some events happen on nights and weekends, and your schedule will flex based on client needs and business activity. The role currently requires work 5-7 days a week and occasional client communication outside regular working hours may be necessary. Our goal is to help build a process/system that brings this to a regular 5 day schedule.
Things won't always go according to plan. Sometimes you'll need to figure things out without a playbook.
But if you enjoy a challenge, value independence, and want to see the direct impact of your work, this can be an incredibly rewarding opportunity.
Sound Like Your Kind of Adventure?
We're not looking for another person to simply fill a position.
We're looking for someone who wants to help build a remarkable business, create amazing experiences, and share in the success they help generate.
Apply through our website at www.HangarIndy.com and tell us a little about yourself, what drives you, and why you think you'd be a great fit for The Hangar.
Thank you!
