Job Summary
The Child Support Assistant provides additional individualized support to children who may need extra assistance to be successful in the classroom. This position works alongside classroom teachers to create a safe, positive, inclusive, and nurturing environment while helping children build social-emotional skills, independence, communication, and positive behaviors.
We are looking for someone who is patient, dependable, compassionate, and able to meet children where they are.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support to children who need additional assistance throughout the day.
- Help children successfully participate in classroom routines, activities, meals, transitions, outdoor play, and rest time.
- Support children with social-emotional development, communication, self-regulation, and positive behavior skills.
- Use positive guidance, redirection, encouragement, and other developmentally appropriate strategies.
- Recognize possible triggers and help children work through challenging moments in a calm and supportive manner.
- Assist children with developing independence and age-appropriate self-help skills.
- Follow individualized support plans and strategies provided by directors, families, or other professionals when applicable.
- Work closely with classroom teachers and directors to maintain consistency in expectations and support.
- Observe and communicate children's progress, successes, challenges, and areas where additional support may be needed.
- Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment for all children.
- Assist classroom teachers with general classroom responsibilities as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff at all times.
- Follow all GPLC policies and applicable childcare licensing requirements.

Preferred Experience
Previous experience in childcare, special education, behavioral support, paraeducator work, one-on-one child support, or a related field is preferred but not required. We are willing to work with the right person who is eager to learn and passionate about helping children succeed.
