Position Overview:
The Driver support role assists the skilled nursing facility by ensuring safe, timely, and courteous transport of residents, supplies, and facility-related needs. This position emphasizes resident safety, dignity, and compliance with California Skilled Nursing Facility regulations. Whether operating a vehicle or escorting residents within the facility, the role requires adherence to facility policies, professionalism, and confidentiality while supporting the overall care and daily operations of the facility.
- Transport residents safely to and from medical appointments, therapy sessions, dialysis, hospital discharges, dining, activities, and other approved locations, either on-site or off-site.
- Assist residents entering/exiting vehicles and using mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, or other assistive devices, following facility training and safety protocols.
- Ensure residents are properly secured with seatbelts, mobility restraints, or safety equipment during transport.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (e.g., brakes, lights, tires, wheelchair lifts, fuel levels).
- Operate facility vehicles in compliance with California Vehicle Code, DMV regulations, and facility policies.
- Observe residents for signs of discomfort or distress and report concerns to nursing staff immediately.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid California Driver’s License (for drivers) with a clean driving record.
- At least 6 months of experience driving or providing resident transport in a healthcare, long-term care, or senior care setting.
