The Grove is a cafe and bakery in the redwoods, where Chef Jessica Yarr cooks with local farms and producers and the same faces come through the door every morning. We're looking for someone to run the front of house like it's their own, because in every way that matters day to day, it will be.
This isn't a barista role. You'll build the systems, the schedule, and the culture that let a busy cafe feel effortless: the team that knows what to do before being asked, the room that's always clean because someone noticed, the community that finds out about Friday's dinner because you posted it. If you've spent years in restaurants and love the work but are done with midnight closes, this is the version of the job that lets you keep the craft and get your evenings back.
ResponsibilitiesLead the Team
- Hire, train, and develop the FOH staff, and build a culture people want to stay in
- Coach in the moment, support, and conflict resolution as it comes up
- Set the standard for hospitality by how you work the floor
Run the Cafe
- Build and manage the FOH schedule against labor targets, availability, and business needs
- Handle inventory and ordering for front-of-house supplies
- Keep the cafe clean, organized, and in compliance with food safety standards, and notice what needs doing before anyone points at it
- Manage our maintenance and service people: schedule repairs and routine service, be the point of contact on site, and stay on top of what's due before something breaks mid-shift
Build the Systems
- Own opening and closing procedures, service standards, and training materials — the documented backbone that makes shifts consistent no matter who's working
- Design workflows that remove friction: where things live, who does what when, how information gets handed off between shifts
- Expand Grove catering platter systems in collaboration with Chef Jessica and GM.
Tell People We're Here
- Keep the website current: hours, holiday closures, events, menus, announcements
- Post to The Grove's Instagram daily specials, new pastries, events, and the everyday moments that make this place what it is
- Respond to comments and messages, and keep our voice consistent and warm
Qualifications
- 4 years in the food industry (required)
- Management or supervisory experience in hospitality strongly preferred
- Proven ability to build schedules, train staff, and manage people fairly and clearly
- Comfortable with basic website updates and running an Instagram account
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Working knowledge of food handling and safety regulations
- Calm and detail-oriented when the room gets busy
- Weekend and holiday availability

Type: Full-time, 30 hours, 3–5 days per week, weekend availability
