Accounting Manager

The Greer Group is seeking a Accounting Manager for our retirement community client located in Pittsboro, NC. This is an immediate, direct-hire opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who is interested in joining a mission-driven organization and leading its Accounting department.

You oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and provide financial leadership and support to the organization. This position works closely with the Senior Director of Finance, leadership, and department managers to ensure accurate financial reporting, sound fiscal management, and informed business decisions.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and oversee the daily operations of the Accounting department.
• Supervise, mentor, and support accounting staff while assigning and managing departmental responsibilities.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations, and cash flow activities.
• Manage monthly and year-end close processes and ensure financial records are accurate and complete.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and other financial reports.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing financial planning.
• Lead monthly financial and variance reviews with department managers.
• Consolidate and analyze financial information and communicate key findings to leadership.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
• Ensure accounting practices comply with GAAP, organizational policies, and applicable regulations.
• Coordinate annual financial audits and serve as a primary contact for external auditors.
• Prepare audit schedules, documentation, and supporting financial materials.
• Partner with the Senior Director of Finance and organizational leadership on financial initiatives and strategic planning.
• Provide financial insight and analysis to support organizational decision-making.

What We’re Looking For:

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, hands-on accounting professional who takes ownership of their work and is comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek guidance. You should enjoy collaborating with both financial and non-financial leaders and be able to translate financial information into meaningful business insights.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Progressive accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Experience leading or supervising accounting staff preferred.
• Strong experience with general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and fiscal management.
• Nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience is a plus.
• Public accounting or audit experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and sound judgment.
