Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing all nursing services within a long‑term care/skilled nursing facility. This nursing management role focuses on clinical oversight, staff supervision, compliance with state and federal regulations, and continuous quality improvement.
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) also plays a major role in nursing administration, including RAI/MDS oversight, care planning, QAPI initiatives, staff education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the nursing department in a long‑term care setting
Serve as a frontline nursing management leader for RNs, LPNs, and CNAs
Support recruitment, hiring, orientation, and retention of nursing staff
Ensure all nursing personnel maintain current licenses, certifications, and competencies
Oversee and coordinate the RAI/MDS process, including MDS assessments, CAAs, and care plans
Monitor accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of clinical documentation
Lead and participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings
Support Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives
Provide in‑service education, coaching, and ongoing staff development
Ensure nursing operations comply with CMS, state regulations, and long‑term care standards
Act as a clinical leader and administrator within the nursing management structure
Qualifications
Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license (required)
Long‑term care or skilled nursing experience required
Minimum of 1 year of nursing leadership, nursing management, or nursing administration experience preferred
Strong working knowledge of long‑term care regulations and clinical best practices
Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work flexible hours based on facility and nursing operations needs
