We are currently seeking a highly analytical Demographic Research & Planning Specialist to support LAUSD's (Los Angeles Unified School District) Master Planning & Development team. This role involves collecting and analyzing demographic data, developing enrollment projections, and preparing reports and presentations, and supporting decision-making for school planning, boundary changes, and facility development. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in demographic research, GIS mapping, and statistical analysis, along with strong communication and data visualization skills.
*Salary Range: $105K/Year-$115K/Year - Dependent on Candidate's Qualifications
Key Responsibilities- Collect, research, and analyze demographic, student enrollment, and population data from district and state/local agencies.
- Generate reports, graphs, charts, and visual presentations summarizing key findings.
- Perform statistical analysis to develop student projections and enrollment impacts related to boundary changes.
- Compile and assess demographic studies related to enrollment fluctuations across schools and district areas.
- Prepare written summaries and documentation to support stakeholder decision-making.
- Analyze proposals for attendance zone changes and assess impacts on school construction and facility planning.
- Respond to inquiries regarding zoning, enrollment, demographic, and geographic data from district staff and external agencies.
- Conduct field surveys to collect geographic and demographic information and evaluate classroom capacities.
- Develop and maintain zone grid maps and ensure accuracy of school boundary information.
- Perform quality control checks on maps, research documents, and related materials.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned.
- At least five (5) years of full-time paid professional experience in:
- demographic research,
- mapping,
- data analysis,
- urban planning,
- statistics,
- geography, or a closely related field.
- Experience working with school or enrollment data is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in urban planning, mathematics, geography, economics, or a related field.
- Statistical methods and analysis
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including ArcGIS 10
- Mapping concepts and cartography techniques
- Research methods and graphic presentation
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Understanding of demographic terminology and best practices
