About the Role
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Paralegal to support a fast-paced criminal defense practice in College Station, TX. This role is ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, can manage a high-volume caseload, and is confident working closely with attorneys, courts, and clients.
What You’ll Do
- Case Management: Oversee approximately 120 active criminal cases, supporting a team of three attorneys
- Court Communication: Manage filings, track deadlines, and maintain proactive communication with courts to minimize resets
- Motion Drafting: Draft and format motions and pleadings, leveraging precedent and analytical thinking
- Legal Research: Conduct research using LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case strategy and trial prep
- Client Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for clients, clearly explaining legal processes and updates
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely updates in the case management system within 24 hours
- Trial Preparation: Assist with trial logistics, including exhibit prep, notebooks, and jury selection coordination
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Investigator and Discovery Clerk to ensure thorough evidence collection and discovery
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 2–6 years as a Paralegal (criminal defense experience preferred)
- Research Skills: Strong proficiency in LexisNexis and Westlaw with excellent legal writing ability
- Organization: Proven ability to manage high caseloads efficiently
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in high-pressure situations
- Judgment: Ability to think critically and make sound decisions independently
- Tech-Savvy: Experience with Clio, Slack, Office 365, and legal research platforms; comfortable using modern tools, including AI
- Process-Oriented: Passion for improving workflows and increasing efficiency
- Integrity: High ethical standards with strict adherence to compliance
