Job Summary

The Construction Crew Leader is responsible for working at many different locations, performs general and varied grounds maintenance and gardening work; mow, edge, trim, plant lawns, soil, plants, trees, planters, and related areas using a wide variety of commercial and industrial hand and power equipment. Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction projects. May operate a variety of hand and power tools. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily tasks according to scheduled routes
  • Responsible for monitoring attendance and productivity of a crew
  • Provide supervision and training to all crew members
  • Review daily work orders, inspect and verify that the materials loaded to the vehicle are adequate to complete the daily assignment
  • Assist crew members to load and unload materials as needed
  • Assist crew members to remove, fill, compacting, and prepare the terrain
  • Install silt fencing and erosion control blankets using a variety of hand tools
  • Perform site clean-up and reload leftover materials after the job assignment is complete

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/highway
  • construction projects; perform manual work in preparing surfaces for paving
  • Shovel bituminous concrete (asphalt) into construction area
  • Fine grade fill to grades given by foreman
  • Assist in patching asphalt with hot and cold mix. Excavate and fills trenches and ditches
  • Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in
  • order to eliminate potential hazards
  • May use landscaping tools or operate heavy equipment as needed
  • Adhere to Company’s safety policy and ensure that the public and co-workers will be safe while performing job duties

  • Leads all efforts of crew work for the day’s events (driving to site, management of materials, quality of work, sign off on inspection reports, communication in field, care of materials and tools, managing overtime, illustrating safety measures, etc.)
  • Interacts with clients on site to assure work is done
  • Reinforces company culture with crew (attire, communication, work ethic, safety, attitude)
  • Assures that job materials are well kept, maintained, and utilized without waste
  • Leads the work effort in the field and becomes adept at installation and maintenance of storm water protective measures
  • Operates heavy equipment (trencher, skid steer, bobcat, backhoe, sweeper) and truck/trailer safely. Abides by all applicable laws/regulations
  • Demonstrates organization and electronic usage capability (i.e., using phone, computers, etc.)
  • Completes all required paperwork and submissions accurately and timely
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Previous construction or landscaping experience preferred
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Comfortable and capable using technology
  • Must be able to physically work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and three years verifiable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Must pass a DOT Physical and Drug Screen
  • Ability to understand/follow directions and take instructions in English
  • Work under inclement weather conditions such as rain, heat, and cold
  • Must have prior work experience as a Foreman or Crew Lead
  • Bi-lingual (English / Spanish) a plus

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent desired
  • Previous outside construction, landscape, or similar field experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills a must
  • Must have prior experience in operating small machinery such as Bobcat and other excavating equipment
  • Prior experience driving ½ or ¾ ton trucks, with a 20 foot trailer attached, fully loaded

  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body
  • Be able to reach overhead
  • Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time
  • Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday
