Financial Controller (Luxury Retail)

Overview:

We are looking for a Controller / Director of Accounting for our rapidly growing fashion and lifestyle client in NYC with multiple retail locations across the US.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close process, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of financial statements.
• Oversee all general ledger activity, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Ensure the integrity of the company's financial records and compliance with GAAP.
• Manage and mentor a team of two accounting staff, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
• Collaborate with store managers and retail operations teams to ensure accurate sales reporting and inventory control.
• Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
• Provide technical accounting expertise on complex transactions.
• Lead the implementation and optimization of accounting systems, including NetSuite.
• Prepare and present financial reports to senior management.
• Collaborate with external auditors to ensure a smooth and efficient audit process.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the retail or fashion industry.
• Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP.
• Experience managing and mentoring accounting staff.
• Proficiency in NetSuite ERP system required.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated ability to improve processes and implement best practices.
