Position Summary
We are seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and nurturing individuals to join our After School Care Program at Mountain Way and Borough Schools in Morris Plains, NJ; just minutes from the Greater Morristown YMCA. As an After School Care Staff member, you’ll provide a safe, engaging, and fun environment for children in grades K–6 during afterschool hours.
Position Details
- Schedule: Part-time, Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM
- Pay: Starting at $18.00/hour
- Location: Mountain Way School and Borough School, Morris Plains, NJ
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and actively engage with children in daily activities both indoors and outdoors.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by following YMCA safety protocols.
- Serve as a positive role model, embodying the YMCA’s core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Assist with daily arrival and dismissal procedures and maintain accurate attendance records.
- Organize and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, and enrichment activities.
- Prepare program areas and materials for use; ensure spaces are clean and secure at the end of the day.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding children’s behavior, accomplishments, and daily activities.
- Be prepared to implement emergency procedures and report any accidents or incidents promptly.
- Attend all required YMCA trainings and staff meetings.
- Use the YMCA timekeeping system to accurately record hours worked.
- Be flexible to accommodate changes due to school closings, early dismissals, or morning care needs.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old (preferred).
- Prior experience working with children in a school, camp, or childcare setting is strongly preferred.
- Ability to lead and participate in group activities such as sports, games, crafts, storytelling, and songs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain a fun and structured environment while using positive discipline techniques.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred (can be obtained upon hire).
- Must be reliable and punctual, with a commitment to the full school year.
