Position Summary:
The primary role of the Director – Marketing & Communications is to oversee communications and marketing efforts for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, promoting Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County as an ideal global location of choice for businesses to locate and expand.
Key responsibilities of the position are:
- Serve as a liaison to the Alliance’s public relations firm as well as handle day-to-day media inquiries and media requests.
- Serve as a secondary liaison to the Alliance’s advertising firm, assisting the Executive Vice President
- Serve as the Alliance Economic Sourcebook Editorial Manager, with direction from Alliance Executive Leadership Team (ELT) – the CEO, EVP, SVPs, and assistance from the Research Director and Director of Communications and Programs, published by South Florida Business Journal
- Update the Annual Alliance Business Plan with photos, graphics and text as needed in InDesign or other graphic design software, based on changes provided by the ELT
- Assist project and member companies as needed with grand opening announcements and ribbon cutting events
- Provide input/oversight/review assistance with select Alliance marketing publications not directly produced by the Marketing/Communications team such as the State of Tech Report
- Write press releases independently and with assistance from Alliance PR firm
- Write advertorial content as needed
- Direct the Audio/Visual and program portion (Script, Music, Visuals) for major events – Mid-Year Meeting and Annual Meeting with assistance from Director of Communications and Programs and Research Director
- Provide Executive Talking Points for CEO and Alliance Chair/Officers/Elected Representatives when necessary
- Ensure annual Executive Survey is carried out and promoted, in partnership with Kaufman Rossin, with input from ELT
- Responsible for assisting with website maintenance/content, working with the Director of Communications and Programs, Research Director and Program Coordinator
- Provide Support Letters when requested and approved
- Update content and design Annual Report in InDesign or other graphic design software
- Design and produce brochures, flyers, programs, campaign material and advertisements promoting Greater Fort Lauderdale and the Alliance.
- Manage and track earned media jointly with PR Firm
- Provide ideas and input for social media content working with the Director of Communications and Programs. Serve as an additional administrator for social content
- Assist in preparing Alliance project proposals and presentations as well as drafting award entries
- Photograph select Alliance events, members, and other items to be utilized in publications, online and in other materials as required when needed
- Manage select sponsorship items, including budget, contracts, negotiations, materials and submissions. Will work with President/CEO and EVP regarding sponsorship opportunities and Alliance participation
Undertake any additional duties, tasks or projects which may be assigned by the Executive Vice President or President/CEO.
Essential Job Components and Necessary Skills:
- Ideal candidate would hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with more than six years of work experience in marketing and communications, public relations or journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Creative vision, impeccable writing skills, media savvy, attention to detail and big-picture thinking
- Proactive, quick to respond, self-starter, creative
- Thorough knowledge of communications best practices
- Experience in graphic design programs such as InDesign/Adobe creative suite, Canva, knowledge of social media platforms
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact with members of the Alliance and the community at large as a representative of the Alliance
Reports to: Executive Vice President
